During the 1990s, Queens became the most ethnically diverse in the US. Prior to the 1970s the population was predominately Caucasian commuters into Manhattan via the 7 train. Now however, the Jackson Heights area around the train has been introduced to a variety of immigrants. Mostly Latin and Indian, they share their respective main streets within a few blocks of each other. This article examines the effect of the raised subway with immigration opportunities due to lowered property value.
